St. Louis, MO; The Paideia Academy, one of the largest charter schools in the city of St. Louis, recently received a donation of over one hundred plants and containers to help beautify the school’s campuses, and to provide lessons for students in horticulture and botany. The plants were donated by Greenscape (greenscapegardens.com), a local company that specializes in providing plants, shrubs, and landscaping to businesses and organizations in the St. Louis area. In addition to providing the plants, Greenscape staff members Kevin Olsen, Matt Wyatt, and Dameian Duwe gave the students a brief overview of plants emphasizing the care and maintenance aspects of growing healthy plants. John Loyet, president of Greenscape said,” It’s a pleasure for Greenscape to provide an opportunity for the Paideia Academy students to enjoy the beautiful plants while learning how they’re grown and maintained”.
Gary White, the Paideia Academy’s science teacher said the plants offered an excellent opportunity for the students to learn how to apply their knowledge of math, science, and the communicative arts. Students will use math to help chart the plants’ growth cycle, social science to understand the history of the plants, and the communicative arts in their discussions about gardening. In addition to beautifying the campuses with plants, the school also added new brick columns around the playground.
The Paideia Academy is a charter school located on campuses in north and south St. Louis. It provides an academic curriculum focused on science and technology to almost five hundred students in grades K through 8. For more information about the Paideia Academy, interested parties are invited to call Brenda Johnson Pruitt, Executive Director at 314-534-1085
